It is currently 7:02pm on October 31st, 2016 as I write this. In approximately 4 hours and 58 minutes November 1st will be upon us. November is National Novel Writing Month or NaNoWriMo for short. Thousands of writers around the world compete to write 50,000 words by the end of the month or approximately 1,667 words per day to finish on time.
Surprisingly, I have never successfully competed in or completed NaNoWriMo. As a busy university student, I don’t have enough time to spare to write 1,667 words or more per day without letting my grades slip a little.
However, this year I have decided to bend NaNoWriMo to fit my schedule and desires to broaden my horizons as a writer.
Everyday for the month of November, I will write one poem per day.
I’ve tried my hand at poetry before, but I’ve certainly never written enough to call myself a poet. I also am constantly writing poetry in my head. It is a mechanism I use to defeat stress.
Is this cheating at NaNoWriMo? Probably. Will I get something out of it? Yes.
I will post the poem here, dear blog, in order to keep myself on track and give myself something to hold myself accountable to.
To everyone participating in the real NaNoWriMo, good luck!
